Betel Nut

So we were sitting around the house watching the television show Survivor Man and the guy was chewing betel nut which apparently is a common stimulant in Papua New Guinea (sp?). Well he started drooling and staring and pretty much looked like his world had just been turned upside down.
Anyway, as you'd imagine, since we saw it on television we now want to try it. Kind of like when you read Malcolm X in highschool and thought it was neat that you could get messed up on oregano, or when you were into reading Kerouac and wanted to get drunk on Port. And yes that is pretty much the maturity level around our house.

The video was kind of like this, but better

From Wikipedia: In the United States, areca nut is not a controlled or specially taxed substance and may be found in some Asian grocery stores. However, importation of areca nut in a form other than whole or carved kernels of nuts can be stopped at the discretion of US Customs officers on the grounds of food, agricultural, or medicinal drug violations. Such actions by Customs are very rare. In the United Kingdom areca nut is readily available in Asian grocery stores and even in shredded forms from the World Food aisles of larger Tesco supermarkets.

So if anyone knows of a grocery store in Minneapolis where we could find some and satisfy our fourteen year old curiosities, that would be swell. Let me know. Thanks.

i've tried it cause it's popular around these parts. it's not that great, kinda like the buzz you get when smoking a cigarette for the first time.
